Do you know what waste management is? And why is that important? Waste management is an effort to reduce waste and environmental pollution. Some that can be done in managing waste are reducing waste production (reduce), reuse, and recycle waste.

Ecolodge Bukit Lawang has made efforts to reduce by not providing straws and bottled drinking water. Instead, we provide drinking water that can be poured into the guests’ drinking bottles.

Ecofarm plays a very important role in reuse activities in ecolodges. Organic waste originating from the ecolodge will be reused at the ecofarm. Leftover food from the restaurant will be feed for maggot (feed for chickens) in ecofarm. Other organic waste can also be used as compost for gardens in ecofarm.

Some of the items in the ecolodge are recycled items, used car tires can be reused as trash cans. The oil drum can become a plant pot. Even weathered wood can be made into handicrafts and sold at the ecolodge gallery.

By managing waste, we hope that the tourism activities carried out will be environmentally friendly. For the rest, we hope that guests who come can adopt an environmentally friendly lifestyle for a sustainable life.
